The Black Cap (English for black hat ) is a striking and rocky mountain peak in East Antarctic Victoria Land . It towers over the northwestern end of Teall Island immediately south of the confluence of the Skelton Glacier with the Ross Ice Shelf .
The New Zealand crew of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) sighted the formation in February 1957 and gave it its descriptive name.
