Teall Island is a ridge- like island off the Hillary coast of East Antarctica, Victoria . It is completely enclosed by the Ross Ice Shelf and lies west of the mouth of the Skelton Glacier .
Presumably participants of the British Discovery Expedition (1901-1904) discovered the island, which they misleadingly named Cape Teall . It was charted as an island by the New Zealand crew of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958). They named these after the actual Cape Teall , which was named after the British geologist and petrologist Jethro Teall (1849-1924).
