The Black Esk is a watercourse in Dumfries and Galloway , Scotland . It arises east of Jocks Shoulder and initially flows in a southerly direction. After crossing under the B723 road at Sandyford , it changes first in an easterly and then in a southeast direction, in which it flows up to its confluence with the White Esk to the River Esk south of Castle O'er .
