Black Mountain is a Canadian psychedelic rock band from Vancouver .

Band history

Head of the band Black Mountain 's Stephen McBean. Until 2003 he belonged to the band Jerk with a Bomb , with which also released two albums. Amber Webber was a singer on the Pyrokinesis album . She in turn formed the duo Lightning Dust with Joshua Wells . After the end of Jerk with a Bomb , McBean started a solo project called Pink Mountaintops and next to it the Black Mountain project . The label Jagjaguwar released the debut single Druganaut in 2004 and a year later the debut album Black Mountain named after the band . In addition to McBean, Webber and Wells, Matthew Camirand and Jeremy Schmidt were also involved. The album received high praise in the press and Coldplay hired the band to support a number of touring appearances.

Then Black Mountain went on tour themselves and then made attempts for the second album. In the Future was completed in 2008 and was ranked number 1 on the US Heatseeker charts when it was released. They also placed on the official US album charts and were also successful in the UK . In their homeland they were nominated for the Polaris Music Prize , the award for the Canadian album of the year.

With the third album Wilderness Heart they were able to build on their success in 2010. They went to Los Angeles for the recording and enlisted the support of producers Dave Sardy and Randall Dunn. In addition to the English-speaking countries, this time they were also able to enter the charts in other European countries. Among other places, they placed in France and Italy and reached number 42 in the Swiss charts .

There was a longer break until the next studio album. The members devoted themselves to other projects, in the meantime Black Mountain played the soundtrack for a surfer documentary entitled Year Zero . In addition, bassist Matt Camirand left the band and was replaced by Arjan Miranda. The album IV was not released until 2016 , with Randall Dunn again collaborating as a producer. It earned them a second Polaris nomination, but commercial success has been limited. They missed the charts in the USA and England, only in Switzerland and Belgium and for the first time in Germany they were able to place themselves.
