Blair McClenachan

Blair McClenachan (born around 1751 in Ireland , †  May 8, 1812 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1797 and 1799 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Blair McClenachan came to Philadelphia from his Irish homeland when he was still young. He later worked there in trade, shipping and banking. During the Revolutionary War he served in a cavalry unit from Philadelphia, which he himself helped set up. McClenachan provided financial support to both the Continental Army and the Continental Congress . From 1790 to 1795 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania . In the late 1790s he joined the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson .

In the congressional elections of 1796 McClenachan was elected in the second constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives, which was then still in Philadelphia, where he succeeded Frederick Muhlenberg on March 4, 1797 . Until March 3, 1799 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Blair McClenachan no longer appeared politically. He died on May 8, 1812 in Philadelphia, where he was also buried.
