Blairlogie Castle
Blairlogie Castle is a tower house in the Scottish town of Blairlogie in the Council Area Stirling . In 1973 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.
history
In 1543 Alexander Spittal had a small defense tower built on the site. In 1582 Blairlogie Castle was expanded to its present size by adding a wing. A protruding window on the south gable is more recent. Four of the windows preserved today still correspond to the original ones.
description
The two-story Blairlogie Castle stands on the northern edge of the hamlet of Blairlogie. Its roughly 70 cm thick masonry consists of quarry stone . The facades are plastered with Harl . Some corner curls protrude from the building edges . Dormers , some of which have been preserved in their original state, emerge from the slate-covered gable roof . Its gables are designed as a stepped gable . The outbuildings are one story.
