Blanche of France
Blanche of France ( also Blanka ; * around 1282 in Paris ; † March 1, 1305 in Vienna ) was the wife of Rudolf III. von Habsburg Duchess of Austria and Styria .
One of the goals of the marriage policy of the German King Albrecht I was a dynastic connection with the French royal family. After long negotiations, which began as early as 1295, Albrecht's eldest son Rudolf was in 1300 with Blanche, the daughter of the French King Philip III. and at the same time married half-sister of King Philip IV . The bride arrived in Vienna at Christmas 1300, her pompous decor was particularly emphasized. Her penchant for luxury, jewelry and expensive clothes was also noticed later. In the short marriage she was an important support to the duke and accompanied him for several months to Styria, which she wanted to get to know as the second country of her rule and where she temporarily ruled in his absence. In 1304 she was stillborn and had no more children after that. A year later she died in Vienna. Her Gothic tumble grave was lost in 1784 and she was reburied in the Minorite Church in Vienna.
