The Evangelical Lutheran Blankenese Church in Hamburg-Blankenese is located on the Blankenese market square (official address Mühlenberger Weg ) and is often referred to locally as the market church . The church belongs to the residential area around the Blankeneser train station, which was opened up from the 1890s.

Building the church

The church is the first church that was built directly in the Blankenese district itself. Before its construction, Blankenese was looked after from Nienstedten , originally it also belonged to the corresponding parish . The architect Ernst Ehrhardt built the church from 1895 to 1896 as a wall pillar church with a cross-shaped floor plan and a single tower. There is also a small roof turret on the crossing . The brick facades are cautiously designed in the spirit of the " Hanover School ", but still have a lot of typical neo-Gothic details and references to the brick Gothic .

Thanks to its great distance from the city center, the Blankenese Church is one of the few neo-Gothic churches from the turn of the 20th century that were not damaged during the air raids on Hamburg in World War II .

The church received a complete renovation and repair of the interior in 2010, during which the inconsistent modernization of the 1950s could be reversed.

Interior

The most important piece of equipment is the bronze baptismal font from the 13th century. This piece comes from the Nienstedten church and was given to the Blankenese church, as it was founded as a subsidiary of the church in Nienstedten.

The window has Siegfried Assmann designed and paid attention to connect to Blankenese in the selection of subjects. This is particularly evident on the south side, where Christian motifs with references to water and fishing are dominant.
