The Blanksee or Blanke See is a lake in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in the south of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The body of water lies between the Siggelkower districts of Klein Pankow in the southeast and Groß Pankow in the southwest and the village of Burow in the north. Directly on the lake there is a holiday home area on a hillside in the southeast and a campsite in the east. The Elde runs 750 meters northwest . The southern part of the little indented lake basin is located within the nature reserve Wüstemoor on the Blanksee , in the north the nature reserve Gehlsbachtal borders. The lake is fed from the south by the Basnisbach and the Wasenbäk, which drains the desert moor. The lake flows to the north in the direction of Gehlsbach .
The body of water covers an area of 18 hectares. The maximum dimension is 660 by 390 meters. The water level is 48 meters above that of the sea. A depth of just over two meters is reached.
The Blanksee and the desert moor lie in a sand area of the Frankfurt stage of the Vistula Ice Age . Dead ice covered with sand created an open body of water after it melted. The desert moor bordering the lake is the product of a silting process . Until the 19th century, the water level of the Blanksee was influenced by mill dams. In GDR times, water was taken from the lake to irrigate the surrounding fields. In 1993 a pumping station built in 1973, which drained fen areas and made areas bordering the lake usable as intensive grassland, was decommissioned.
