The bubble anemone ( Entacmaea quadricolor ) is a sea anemone from the tropical coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific and the Red Sea . It has tentacles up to ten centimeters long, which often have blister-like swellings with green or red tips at the ends. Bubble anemones are pale white, brown or reddish in color, the last color form is also called copper anemone . Bubble anemones live in symbiosis with zooxanthellae , from which they get some of the nutrients they need. They only have a weak nettle .

It forms two forms in the sea. Small specimens only 5 to 10 centimeters in size live in shallow water, which multiply by division and form large colonies of genetically identical specimens. Large solitary specimens with a disc diameter of 40 centimeters live in deeper water. Bubble anemones always strive to anchor their feet deep in caves or crevices.

symbiosis

It is a symbiotic anemone and an important symbiotic partner of the anemonefish . They accept a total of ten species of the amphiprion genus , the velvet anemonefish ( Premnas biaculeatus ) and, in its youth, the triangular Prussian fish ( Dascyllus trimaculatus ) as partners. It is also accepted as host by the commensal porcelain crabs of the genus Neopetrolisthes and by Red Sea partner shrimp .

Aquarium keeping

In the saltwater aquarium , the bubble anemone is the most durable symbiotic anemone. It is also accepted by anemonefish, which are not partners in nature. If the fish are fed enough, the anemone gets enough food. Small frozen food such as Cyclops is best . She is often unable to completely digest larger foods. A bubble anemone added to an aquarium containing anemonefish should be large enough. Bubble anemones have already reproduced asexually in the aquarium through division.
