The blue -bearded amazon ( Amazona festiva ), also spelled blue-bearded amazon , is a species of parrot from the subfamily of the New World parrots . The basic color of the plumage of this 35 centimeter Amazon species is green. The forehead and reins of this species are dark red, while the area above the eyes is turquoise blue. The wings are dark blue and the tail feathers are lined with yellow green. The tips of the tail are yellow. Unlike most Amazon species, the featherless eye ring is not white, but gray-blue.

The distribution area of this Amazon species extends from eastern Colombia , Ecuador and Peru to the Brazilian Amazon basin. It is one of the Amazon species that live in the rainforests of the lowlands. The population size of the species is unknown, but it is generally considered to be less endangered, as the areas inhabited by the species along the river courses, the river islands and the swamp regions within the rainforest are neither converted into agricultural areas nor are they subject to extensive clearing due to their inhospitable nature.

Subspecies

In addition to the nominate form A. festiva festiva there is also the Bodinus Amazon ( A. festiva bodini ) (Finsch 1873).
