Bleheratherina pierucciae is a small freshwater fish from the Old World earfish family(Atherinidae) that is endemic to New Caledonia in the Pirogues and Tontouta rivers. The German ichthyologist Heiko Bleher is honoredwith the generic name.

features

Bleheratherina pierucciae is very slender, almost transparent and reaches a maximum length of 4.7 cm. It has 40 to 41 vertebrae. The eyes and mouth are relatively large. The end of the premaxillary extends to the front edge of the eye socket.

The caudal fin has nine dorsal and eight ventral main fin rays.

Systematics

Bleheratherina pierucciae is systematically isolated and is assigned to its own subfamily (Bleheratherininae) , since it can not be assigned to any other Indo-Pacific spearfish genus or subfamily due to its osteological characteristics, especially the mouth.
