Kaltau lead mine
The lead mine Kaltau is of abandoned mining of lead ores in Steyrling , Upper Austria .
location
The mine is just above the Kaltau Alm , via which there is a connection from Steyrling to Grünau im Almtal .
history
There is a report from Hutmann Moritz from 1796, in which he describes his facility and announces further mining attempts. Moritz apparently invested all of his private assets in mining , but could not keep the business.
description
The abandoned mine, located at approx. 1050 m above sea level, consists of five tunnels that are together 124 m long. There are also two extraction chambers and a 19 m deep shaft . Apparently there were only small ore stocks that could be mined, no duct- shaped galena . Therefore, ore outcrops cannot be observed in any of the galleries.
geology
The Kremsmauer northwest of Steyrling consists mainly of triadic limestone and dolomite and in the area of the abandoned mining area of a pile of Wetterstein limestone. The mineralization is partly synsedimentary formations or syndiagenetic metal enrichments. Fissures in connection with green-gray Latvians are visible in the tunnels.
