Bliss is a relatively small impact crater to the north of the lunar front , northwest of the large Plato crater , between the Mare Frigoris in the north and the Mare Imbrium in the south.
The crater was renamed by the IAU in 2000 after the British astronomer Nathaniel Bliss . Until then, the crater was known as Plato A , tracing back to Johann Heinrich von Mädler .
