Block of left forces

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Left Forces bloc is a party alliance founded in Ukraine in 2009 . Participating in the alliance are four social democratic and communist parties that for the first time put up a joint candidate for the 2009 presidential election, the leader of the Communist Party, Petro Symonenko . The current voter potential of the alliance is estimated at around 4%.

Two of the parties ( KPU , VSDPU ) were former members of the Ukrainian parliament ; the VSDPU left the Ukrainian parliament in 2006 because the threshold clause failed, although it had a large parliamentary group in the 1990s. The KPU has also lost 4/5 of its seats in parliament since the late 1990s. Due to the formation of a bloc - similar to those of the larger associations such as the Julia Tymoshenko bloc - the two parties hope for a united and strengthened return to the national parliament together with their two partners. The problem here is that social democratic parties are also involved in two of the other blocs and that cooperation with the more orthodox communists is not undisputed among the social democratic parties.
