The Blomberg Monument (or Blomberg Monument ) is a monument in the Friedrichshain part of the Berlin district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg .

history

The sculptor Otto Kuhlmann created the memorial on the 100th anniversary of the death of Baron Alexander von Blomberg , which commemorates an episode from the Wars of Independence . At the point marked by a weathered memorial cross, the Prussian officer fell “as a comrade in arms of Russian Cossacks in the fight against the Napoleonic army”. In 1913 the monument to the 100th anniversary of the death of Blomberg in the green area in front of was St. Bartholomew's Church at Peace Street Corner New King Street (now Otto-Braun-Strasse ) set up. The monument made of shell limestone, crowned by an antique warrior helmet, has a bronze medallion on the base with the year “1813” and a plaque with the inscription “Fallen first victim in the German freedom struggles. Baron Alexander v. Blomberg, b. Iggenhausen (Lippe) on January 31, 1788, died here in front of the Königstor on February 20, 1813 ”.
