Karl Alexander Freiherr von Blomberg (born January 31, 1788 at Iggenhausen Castle in Lage , † February 20, 1813 in Berlin ) was a German poet and Prussian officer .

Life

He came from the noble family Blomberg , his father was court judge in the Principality of Lippe . After his confirmation , Blomberg joined the Prussian army at the age of twelve . Second lieutenant in the Budberg Infantry Regiment since 1804 , he took part in the Battle of Jena in 1806 , was captured with his regiment in Erfurt and released home against the promise of no longer fighting in this war. After the Peace of Tilsit , Blomberg returned to the army. He was stationed in Berlin and wrote patriotic poems. In 1809, while trying to join the Schill Free Corps , Blomberg captured Prussian hussars. He was sentenced to three months in prison . In 1811 the army took him back. Because Blomberg did not want to take part in the Russian campaign on the side of France in 1812 , he asked for his departure and entered Russian services. On February 20, 1813, with a Cossack detachment , he penetrated Berlin, which was still under French occupation, in order - albeit unsuccessfully - to induce the residents to revolt against the Napoleonic regime. He was fatally wounded in a battle at the King's Gate .

Blomberg was honored as the first victim of the Wars of Liberation , although Prussia had only declared war against France on March 17, 1813. The Blomberg monument with the following inscription has been located at the former Königstor in front of St. Bartholomew's Church since 1913 :

In 1813, Baron Alexander v. Was the first victim in the German struggle for freedom. Blomberg * Iggenhausen (Lippe) January 31, 1788 † here in front of the Königstor February 20, 1813 .

He was the younger brother of the later poet lawyer Wilhelm von Blomberg .
