Bloody River (also: Stone Fort River , Pelhams River ) is a so-called ghaut ( good ), an ephemeral body of water similar to a Fiumara , in St. Kitts , in the Caribbean island state of St. Kitts and Nevis .
geography
The river has its source in the South East Range to the south of St. Kitts. It runs along the ridge that separates Saint Thomas Middle Island from Trinity Palmetto Point . On the coast it runs west of the town of Challengers and flows into the sea at Bloody Point . There is the eponymous Stone Fort , an old meeting place of the Caribs .
history
There are numerous petroglyphs at Ploody Point . In 1626 the Kalinago genocide occurred at the site , in which 2,000 Caribs were probably massacred by the English and French settlers.
