Blues to the Bone is a studio album by the American singer Etta James . It was released on RCA Victor in 2004 and features covers of classic blues music.

Etta James is at home in many different genres, but she always admitted the blues as her foundation. With the album "Blues to the Bone" she pays tribute to the great blues musicians. She was inspired for this album by Martin Scorsese's TV series The Blues , who also wrote an accompanying text for the album. She was supposed to appear in the series, but an illness prevented participation.

On closer inspection, she found that the songs were all sung from a male point of view and she wanted to help make it possible to see what they look like from a different point of view.

The album was produced by Etta James together with their sons Donto and Sametto, who also played bass and drums during the recordings.

The album reached number 4 on the Billboard Top Blues Charts.

Criticism

  • AMG - Steve Leggett: Etta James has long been one of the best singers of her generation - in any style. (Etta James is one of the best singers of her generation in every style.)
  • Amazon - Frank-John Hadley .... she seizes each of a dozen as her own, and clearly, as she says herself, these are the blues songs that touch her the deepest (.. she treats everyone as hers, and obviously it is those, as she herself says, who touched her deepest.)
