Tell Mama is the seventh album by the American singer Etta James . It was released in 1968 on Cadet Records, a sub-label of Chess Records . In 2001 the long-playing record was reissued as a CD under the title "Tell Mama: The Complete Muscle Shoals Sessions".

General

Leonard Chess sent Etta James to FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals , Alabama and it paid off as it turned out to be one of the best, most soul-soaked Cadet albums Etta James recorded. In addition to the title track and Security , the album also contains I'd Rather Go Blind , another song that James later sang, even though it wasn't originally a hit.

Two singles were released from the album ( Tell Mama and Security , originally by Otis Redding ). Tell Mama reached number 10 in the rhythm and blues charts and number 23 in the pop charts, security number 11 and 35. The album itself was also very successful, reaching number 21 in the rhythm and blues charts and 82 in the pop charts. 2006 the album was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame of the Blues Foundation .
