David Hood

David Hood (born September 21, 1943 in Sheffield , Alabama ) is an American bassist .

Career

Hood initially played the trombone as his main instrument, but also began playing bass in high school . While studying at the University of North Alabama , he played in a locally known group called The Mystics . On the trombone he made his first recordings in the FAME studios in 1966 , before he got a permanent position as a studio musician as a bass player . There he played recordings with Aretha Franklin , Wilson Pickett and Solomon Burke and formed together with guitarist Jimmy Johnson and drummer Roger Hawkinsand keyboardist Barry Beckett the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section . In 1969 the four of them left FAME Studios together and founded their own recording studio, Muscle Shoals Sound Studio , in which numerous well-known artists subsequently made their recordings. In the 1970s he played for Cher , Linda Ronstadt , Rod Stewart and Joe Cocker . In 1973 Hood toured with Steve Winwood's band Traffic .

From the mid-1970s Hood also worked as a music producer for bands such as Blackfoot ; in the 1980s he was heard on bass in recordings by James Brown , Glenn Frey and Carlos Santana . After the sale of the studio, he continued his work as a studio musician, including in Sun Studios with John Hiatt .
