(1978)

Izitso is the tenth studio album by the singer and songwriter Cat Stevens .

history

The twelfth album (including live and compilation albums) by Cat Stevens was released in May 1977. After the poor sales of the previous album Numbers (A Pythagorean Theory Tale) , the current album Izitso should be much more commercial and successful (USA: 7th place; GB: 18th place , Federal Republic of Germany: 8th place).

Stevens separated again, as with Foreigner , from his musical companion Alun Davies and for the first time from his drummer Gerry Conway ; he also produced the album with Dave Kershenbaum in a sound that was modern for the mid-1970s. Overall, synthesizers, rhythm and wind instruments were used to the detriment of acoustic instruments.

Also unusual was the release of two instrumentals, Kypros and Was Dog a Donut? and a third-party composition Child for a Day , in which Stevens' brother David Gordon was co-author. The autobiographical title (I Never Wanted) to Be a Star reveals (according to the companion book to On the Road to Find Out (Box Set) ) Cat Stevens' dissatisfaction with the state of the entertainment industry and the stardom he gained after the release of Back to Earth put a temporary end. Released as singles (Remember the Days of the) Old Schoolyard , Child for a Day , Was Dog a Donut? and (I Never Wanted) to Be a Star . The album was re-released in 2001 in a version remastered by Ted Jensen.
