An Other Cup is a music album by Yusuf who was previously successful as Cat Stevens . It is his first pop / folk rock album since the 1978 album Back to Earth .

An Other Cup was released in Germany on November 10, 2006 on Atlantic Records ; the tracks Heaven / Where True Love Goes , Midday (Avoid City After Dark) and Maybe There's a World were released as an e-single.

Title of the album

In an interview with the FAZ , Yusuf Islam answered the question about the title of the album with “A little grammatical quirk. I wanted people to understand that this record is really An Other Cup. Not just another cup, but: another cup (an other cup, unusual spelling in English). […] The cup can also be found on the cover of the Tea for the Tillerman album from 1970, my most famous album, and this little space is meant to show that something has happened since then. That we live in another world. This CD is a new step, some consider it a very brave step. I'm building a bridge and trying to walk on it. Many people are afraid to step on this bridge. "

In the following he refers to the symbol of the coffee cup as a reference “to the hidden treasures of Islamic civilization. Coffee houses, the cafes that we see on every corner today, are an invention of Muslims. They existed in Istanbul as early as the 15th century and even earlier in Yemen. In this way the cup becomes a symbol of what we share with one another. "
