Buddha and the Chocolate Box is the eighth studio album by singer and songwriter Cat Stevens (now Yusuf). It was published in March 1974.
history
Cat Stevens had a Buddha figure and a box of chocolates in his hands on a flight to a concert and thought that if he died now he would be caught between something spiritual and something material; this is how the album title came about.
Musically, the titles are a departure from the soulful previous album Foreigner towards Catch Bull at Four and even earlier works. The partnership with Alun Davies and his producer Paul Samwell-Smith was renewed. Buddha and the Chocolate Box reached number 2 in the USA, number 3 in Great Britain and number 34 in the Federal Republic of Germany. As singles were Oh Very Young and Ready decoupled.
The album was re-released in 2000 in a version remastered by Ted Jensen.
