Flower festival polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The flower festival polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 111). The work was performed for the first time on May 14, 1852 in the Volksgarten in Vienna .

Remarks

According to contemporary reports, the polka was premiered on the occasion of a spring festival (flower festival) in honor of the mother of the emperor, Archduchess Sophie (1805–1872). With this work, too, the composer tries to forget his sympathies for the revolution of 1848 and to move closer to the imperial family. This new course should earn him the title of court ball music director in 1863.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 25 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
