The BoDeans are an American rock band from Waukesha , Wisconsin.

Band history

In 1984 in the small town of Waukesha in the US state of Wisconsin, high school friends Sammy Llanas and Kurt Neumann formed the four-piece band The BoDeans, along with Bob Griffin and Guy Hoffmann . In neighboring Milwaukee , they built a fan base and eventually got a record deal. In 1986 they had already completed their debut album Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams with the support of T Bone Burnett and thus brought it to the Billboard 200 for 19 weeks . The next album Outside Looking Inwas even more successful and made it into the top 100. After that, however, drummer Hoffman left the band and was replaced by Danny Gayol until their next album. Keyboard player Michael Ramos also added to the line-up.

After two other fairly successful albums, their success began to wane in the 90s, although a loyal fan base continued to give them chart success. In 1996 they had their only hit single with the song Closer to Free , when it was used on the TV show Party of Five and then came to number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was even a number one hit in Canada . However, the band had already started falling apart, Gayol had left and Neumann and Llanas were trying their hand at solo careers.

In 2004 they reunited with Nick Kitsos on drums and with a new label, on which the album Resolution was released. It was able to get back on the charts, if only for a week. Without founding member Bob Griffin - the bassist was replaced by Eric Holden, they continued their chart history with two more albums, Still and Mr. Sad Clown , in the following years and were also successful in the indie charts.

After the release of the album Indigo Dreams on July 26, 2011, Sam Llanas officially left the band on August 18 due to differences of opinion . He has since been replaced by Jake Owen.
