Helmut Seel

Helmut Seel (born February 28, 1933 in Hollabrunn ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and university professor. Seel was a member of the Austrian National Council from 1983 to 1994 .

education and profession

After elementary school, Seel attended the federal high school and then a teacher training institute , where he passed his Matura in 1953. Seel acquired the teaching qualification for elementary and secondary schools and studied from 1958 to 1963 at the University of Graz . He passed the teaching examination in 1962 and received his doctorate in 1963.

Seel worked from 1953 to 1962 as a primary and secondary school teacher in Neuhofen , Enns and Linz and from 1962 to 1968 was a professor at the Federal Teachers' Training Institute in Linz. Seel was assigned to the University of Education in Klagenfurt from 1970 to 1972 and completed his habilitation in 1972. From 1972 to 1977 he was head of Department I of the Center for School Experiments and School Development of the Federal Ministry for Education and Art in Klagenfurt and was then a scientific advisor this institution. In 1972, Seel became a full professor for pedagogy at the University of Graz , and between 1977 and 1979 he was the dean of the humanities faculty at the University of Graz.

Seel developed a teaching theory based on gestalt theory , was the advisory editor of the journal Gestalt Theory - An International Multidisciplinary Journal and was involved in the international society for Gestalt theory and its applications .

politics

Seel was a member of the school reform commission and chairman of the specialist group for university teachers in the Association of Socialist Academics, Intellectuals and Artists of Styria. In addition, from 1988 onwards he held the position of regional education chairman of the SPÖ Styria. Seel was a member of the National Council from May 19, 1983 to January 22, 1987 and again from November 29, 1988 to November 6, 1994.

Honors

Among other things, Seel was awarded the Federal Badge of Honor. He was thanked and recognized by the Federal Ministry for Education and the Arts, awarded the great gold medal of honor of the State of Styria and the honorary title "Citizen of the City of Graz".
