The Boardwalk Hotel and Casino was one of MGM Mirage operated hotel - and casino complex in Las Vegas , Nevada . It was built before the era of mega-casinos and was small compared to its neighboring hotels with only 654 rooms .

The theme of the hotel was Coney Island . As a special feature, the hotel had a (non-working) wooden roller coaster . The hotel consisted of three different buildings , which were built at different times. The newest building was the 16-story hotel tower, which was built in 1996. As a further specialty, in 1998 the surf buffet was converted into a 24-hour buffet - unique on the Las Vegas Strip .

history

Originally an independent hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip, the hotel was acquired by Boardwalk Casino Inc. in 1994. It was resold to MGM Mirage in 1997.

The hotel was closed on January 9, 2006 and demolished on May 9, 2006 by blowing up the hotel tower to make way for the new CityCenter Las Vegas .
