Bob Marcucci
Bob Marcucci (actually Robert P. Marcucci , born February 28, 1930 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , USA ; † March 9, 2011 in Ontario , California ) was an American record producer and promoter .
In the 1950s and 1960s he discovered numerous pop stars, including Frankie Avalon and Fabian , whom he signed for his record label Chancellor Records . Through massive television and public presence, he managed to turn his more or less talented protégés into superstars with more or less successful songs.
He also produced numerous records, his greatest success as a producer was Frankie Avalon's hit Venus . In 1961 he wrote the soundtrack for the film Sail a Crooked Ship , in 1963 for Operation Bikini , in which his protégé Avalon also played.
In 1980 The Idolmaker was made, a film based on Marcucci's life and nominated for a Golden Globe .
