Bobby Guyer
Robert "Bobby" Guyer (* in Richmond , Indiana ; † 1988 ) was an American jazz trumpeter and swing singer .
Bobby Guyer spent most of his life in the American Midwest , where he played in local swing bands, including in Bobby Byrne's orchestra from 1939 to 1943 . In 1943 he worked for Benny Goodman , then went to Woody Herman (1944), Tommy Dorsey and Hal McIntyre , with whom he participated in recordings.
After playing in the Dorsey Brothers Band in the early 1950s, he moved to Cincinnati , where he worked primarily as a studio musician and occasionally performed in northern Kentucky . Three years before his death, Guyer recorded an album under his own name ( Bobby Guyer and Friends ) for the Jazzology label, on which he played Dixieland and swing standards with musicians such as Ted Des Plantes , Paul Thatcher and Bill Gemmer .
Authors Richard Cook and Brian Morton consider Bobby Guyer to be "pleasant memories of the forgotten jazz community of Cincinnati and Kentucky."
