Bobby Andrew Witt Jr. (born June 14, 2000 in Colleyville , Texas ) is an American baseball player . He was selected in the first round with the 2nd pick by the Kansas City Royals in the 2019 MLB Draft .

Career

Witt attended Colleyville Heritage High School in Colleyville , Texas .

He signed up to play college baseball at the University of Oklahoma . As a junior in 2018, he hit .446 with ten home runs. That summer he won the High School Home Run Derby at Nationals Park . He also played in the Under Armor All-America Baseball Game at Wrigley Field later that summer , where he hit a home run and was named Team MVP. He later played the perfect game All-American Classic at Petco Park . In December, he played for Team USA in Panama City during the 2018 COPABE Pan-American Championship and helped the team win a gold medal. In his senior year 2019, he was named Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year after having a batting average of .515 with 15 home runs , 54 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases .

Witt was considered one of the top picks for the 2019 MLB Draft. He was selected by the Kansas City Royals with a second pick. He signed a $ 7.79 million deal with the Royals.

Witt's father, Bobby Witt Sr. , played 16 seasons as a pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB). Bobby Witt Sr. is a current player agent for Octagon Baseball and is his son's advisor.
