Boca del Cufré is a town in Uruguay .

Geography and location

Boca del Cufré is located in the territory of the Department of San José in its sector 5 on the banks of the Río de la Plata . The place is located in the extreme southwest of San José on the border with the neighboring Colonia , which is formed there by the Arroyo Cufré , which opens at Boca del Cufré . Immediately to the west is the place Brisas del Plata in Colonia . Other settlements in the vicinity are in the northeast Ecilda Paullier and Scavino .

history

In December 1531, the Portuguese navigator Pedro Lópes de Souza met the Exarúas and Charrúas at the location where today's Boca del Cufré is located, as well as in Puerto Arazatí .

To the north of the village runs a few kilometers away Ruta 1 , to which there is a road connection to Boca del Cufrés at about 100 km. There is also a regular bus connection via Ecilda Paullier to the departmental capital San José .

tourism

Originally a fishing village, Boca de Cufré has meanwhile also dedicated itself to tourism. As part of the tourist offer, the place has a campsite and holiday homes, formerly operated by Intendencia, now privately operated. A gastronomic offer is also available. In addition to water sports activities, there is also the possibility of fishing both in the Arroyo Cufré and in the Río de la Plata. Furthermore, the local area, with its extensive pine trees, has wide sandy beaches, which have again been awarded the LATU for the fourth time as a certified environmentally friendly beach ( Playa Natural de Gestión Ambiental Certificada ). Even a small, with that in Ecilda Paullier cooperating clinic present near the campsite.

Residents

The population of Boca del Cufré is 28 (as of 2011), of which 13 are male and 15 are female. With 38 inhabitants, the place in the 2004 census was the smallest in the department in terms of population.
