The Ruta 1 , named after Brigadier General Manuel Oribe , is a national road in southern Uruguay .
The approximately 170 km long, four-lane road starts in the capital, Montevideo . There it arises as a junction of the Bulevar Artigas and the Ruta 5 and ends in the southwest of the country in Colonia del Sacramento . On her way there she leads through Santiago Vázquez , Ciudad del Plata , Libertad , Ecilda Paullier , Nueva Helvecia , Rosario and Juan Lacaze .
Between Santiago Vázquez and Ciudad del Plata, the street crosses the Río Santa Lucía on a new bridge, completed in 2005, which replaces an old truss bridge to the east and which has been named after the singer and composer Alfredo Zitarrosa since 2010 .
