The Ruta 26, General Leandro Gómez is a street in Uruguay .
It runs in the north of the country from west to east mainly through the departments of Paysandú , Tacuarembó and Cerro Largo . It is one of the few national roads that do not at least lead into the immediate vicinity of the capital Montevideo .
It begins north of the city of Paysandú as a junction from Ruta 3, which runs further north . For a few kilometers on its way to the next larger city Tacuarembó, it also touches the territory of the Salto department . She crosses the Río Negro . This crossing was made over Uruguay's longest road bridge at 962 meters at Paso Aguiar . Finally, it leads through Melo and Río Branco before it ends in the seaside resort of Lago Merín .
Its name can be traced back to the resistance fighter General Leandro Gómez .
