The post mill Tüngeda is a restored, fully functional post mill in Tüngeda in Thuringia .

Technical parameters

The mill was designed as a grinding mill, it is 11.5 m high, the wing shaft is 8.3 m above the ground. The mill house has a floor area of 5.7 x 4.6 m.

history

At least since 1575 existed for Tüngedaer farmers thirlage to use the about 5 km away Hainaer Nessemühle the gentlemen von Wangenheim , who were also judicial and feudal lords in Tüngeda. Since 1838, farmers from Tüngeda have sought permission from the ducal Gothic administration to build a windmill on the outskirts. The mill was finally approved and was built in 1840 on the road from Oesterbehringen to Wangenheim on the southern outskirts of Tüngeda. This saved the Tüngeda farmers from having to go to the neighboring village. The carpenter Johann Heinrich Rockstuhl acquired this mill in 1870 , and in 1875 it was moved to its current location on Wieglebener Weg . In 1879, the windmill Wilhelm Karl Krupp from Görmar near Mühlhausen took over the mill.

Comprehensive repairs were necessary in 1913: most of the mill's components, except for the house tree, the oak cross and the trestle, had to be replaced. At the same time, technical improvements were made. After 1945 an attempt was made to connect an electricity generator to the mill, but this was only possible with good wind . In 1958 the mill was shut down.

Restoration of the windmill

In 1984 the value of the ruined windmill was after a heavy storm by residents from Tüngeda as technical monument recognized and taken steps to rescue, on April 6, 1984, was interest group Bockwindmühle Tüngeda founded in May the repair work could begin. In 1989 the mill (without the property) was acquired by the district council. After the fall of the Wall , the municipality of Tüngeda took over the building of the mill from the Treuhandanstalt .

The Rockstuhl family published their first publication on the history of the mill in 1990. On the first German Milling Day in 1994, the mill was visited by hundreds of interested visitors. On May 23, 1995 the local history association Bockwindmühle Tüngeda was founded. In the period that followed, the technical system and the mill building were repaired step by step.
However, the mill has been closed again since summer 2011 due to structural defects and was "jacked up" for safety in order to prevent it from falling over in a storm, which would result in a total loss. In addition to the wear and tear caused by wear and tear during operation, the age of some parts and technical defects from previous restorations were given as reasons for the dilapidation. A specialist company for windmill restoration should, when the necessary funds are available, make the veterans stable and functional again, so that the post mill can also be put into operation in the future at Thuringian Mill Day and similar events.
