BWO consists of the singer Martin Rolinski , who was recruited by the producers as part of a talent competition, the keyboard player Marina Schiptjenko (formerly with Vacuum ) and the music producer Alexander Bard (formerly with Army of Lovers , Vacuum and Alcazar , currently with Gravitonas ). Jean-Pierre Barda of Army of Lovers was originally the fourth band member, but since he did not fit into the band's live concept, he only appeared in guest appearances in the first two videos. The band was founded at the end of 2003 by Bard and Anders Hansson, a successful producer ( Christina Aguilera ), who had been writing and producing songs together since the mid-90s. It probably also marks the final end of the collaboration between Anders Wollbeck and Alexander Bard, who as a songwriting duo were responsible for most of the hits from Army of Lovers, Vacuum and the first Alcazar album. The debut album Prototype was released in Germany in summer 2005. The band is best known in their home country Sweden, Russia and the European gay scene. Both the first (and so far only) single and the album were not very successful in Germany. In Sweden, however, the band received gold awards for their albums and had several top ten positions in the charts.

In 2005 the group took part in the Melodifestivalen , the Swedish qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest . However, she was eliminated in advance. In 2006 they reached second place there with Temple of Love , the song was number 1 on the Swedish sales charts for weeks. They also won a Swedish Grammy in 2006 for "best pop group of the year". In September 2006, a new record company began marketing in some Scandinavian countries and promoted the band in the United Kingdom, making the single Chariots of Fire into the club charts.

In 2008, Bodies Without Organs took part in the Melodifestivalen again, but again missed the ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest, their song Lay Your Love on Me took third place. On May 28, 2008, Barcelona was released as a 10-track maxi CD in Sweden . In Sweden, the single The Bells of Freedom , the official anthem of the Europride in Stockholm 2008 , was released on August 2, 2008.

In February / March 2009 BWO again took part in the Swedish preliminary round of Melodifestivalen for the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 , but did not reach the final with the ballad You're Not Alone . You're Not Alone was released as a single on February 28, 2009.
