Bodo-Eckehard Mourning

Bodo-Eckehard Strauer (born January 16, 1943 in Babelsberg ) is a German cardiologist .

Life

Strauer studied human medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Georg August University in Göttingen , where he received his doctorate in 1966 at the age of 23 and habilitated in 1973 at the age of 30. From 1974 to 1984 he was a senior physician at the Großhadern Clinic . From 1975 he worked as a reviewer for the German Research Foundation (DFG). During this activity in 1980 he was appointed professor at the University of Munich . In 1984 he became a professor at the University of Marburg . In 1987 he moved to the Düsseldorf University Hospital as director of the cardiology, pulmonology and angiology department . From 1995 to 2003 he was Deputy Medical Director there. He retired in February 2009.

His work in the research and treatment of the hypertensive heart and the establishment of new diagnostic procedures for the treatment of coronary heart disease were considered to be groundbreaking. He did pioneering work in the field of stem cell transplantation after a heart attack .

criticism

In December 2012, the Süddeutsche Zeitung published a report after the studies on the use of the body's own stem cells in heart attacks were possibly manipulated. The hospital of the University of Düsseldorf commissioned an external commission of experts to further investigate the matter on the basis of information "from outside".

In July 2013 the International Journal of Cardiology published the results of a review of 48 of his publications and identified "hundreds of errors".
