In BDSM , the term body bag refers to a sleeping bag - or bladder-like bag made of leather , Lycra or latex , which completely and as tightly encloses the body of the person in it to severely restrict freedom of movement. The use of a bodybag is a special bondage practice and plays a role in sexual fetishism .

In addition to the variance in the material and the corresponding closures (for example laces , buckles or zippers ), there are different designs. The basic model is a simple sack, from which a person tied up in it usually cannot free himself without outside help. To increase the inability to move, some models are equipped with inside arm pockets, which further restrict the freedom of movement of the arms and hands. Belts that use D-rings are also usedheld in place, further restraining the bound person. Some variants also have hoods or headboards; If there are sleeves, they usually end in gloves or thumbless mittens.

The terminology is not uniform, there are different terms that are often confused:

  • A sauna bag is the name of a body bag made of latex, PVC or another waterproof and airtight material.
  • An amniotic sac is also made of water- and air-impermeable material, but is thinner-walled and has no zipper or the like. Due to the elasticity of the material, you can climb into a large balloon.
  • A single leggings suit (English suit with one-piece leggings ) is a suit that only reaches up to the upper body and allows the arms freedom of movement.
  • A Mermaid Suit (Engl. Mermaid suit ) is similar to a single Leggings Suit , but sometimes replicated at the bottom fins like mermaids.
  • An inflatable is a suit that has two layers and can be inflated or filled with water.
  • A deflatable is a suit that has two layers and in which the air between the two layers can be extracted (similar to a vacuum bed )

A comparable effect is achieved with so-called mummification . Compared to the body bag, this technique is more time-consuming to set up and release, and it also requires experience from the person performing it. Bodybags are easier to handle and the freeing of the tied person is safe and risk-free even in an emergency.

Risks when using the bodybags, especially those made of waterproof and airtight material, are overheating or hypothermia of the tied person. In addition, a person in this bondage tends to be easily dehydrated , and in extreme cases there is also the possibility of heat stroke . Since the use can drag on over a longer period of time, pain and pressure points caused by the position are possible.
