Life

The exact birthday is not known, but Johann Maximilian Emanuel was baptized on January 10, 1687 in the Residenzkapelle . The importance of the von Preysing family is already clear from the fact that his godfather was Elector Maximilian II. Emanuel , though represented by Count Paul Fugger . Preysing attended the Jesuit high school (today Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich ), which he graduated in 1704. From 1706 to 1710 he studied law at the University of Ingolstadt . From 1714 to 1715 he worked for Maximilian II Emanuel in Paris . Then he was in the service of Prince Elector Karl Albrecht until his death in 1745. He was the prince's companion on numerous cavalier tours.

In 1720 he married Maria Anna Josepha Theresia Brigitta Countess von Rechberg zu Hohenrechberg in the Trinity Church in Munich . However, his wife died just a year after the wedding, giving birth to their first child who did not live. In 1722 Preysing became the elector's chief stableman . In 1726 he was appointed Colonel Master and Chief Financial Officer by Elector Karl Albrecht, making him a real secret council and a member of the secret council conference.

On St. George's Day 1729 (April 24, 1729) he was awarded the Grand Commander's Cross of the Order of St. George by the Elector .

In 1731 he married Countess Maria Theresa Fugger von Kirchberg and Weißenhorn in Nordendorf . However, there are no descendants from this marriage either. In 1735 Preysing had a serious riding accident. Two years later he was by the Elector Maximilian III. Joseph promoted to chief steward, in 1738 he also took over the office of chief chamberlain . In 1746, after being appointed chief steward, he reached the highest political rank of the Bavarian court. Together with the Minister of War Joseph Franz Maria Ignaz Graf von Seinsheim , he had a decisive influence on Bavarian foreign policy and was responsible, in particular, for the orientation towards Prussia and France as well as the front line against Austria.

After his death in 1764, his brother Johann Karl Joseph Graf von Preysing-Hohenaschau was appointed heir.

In 1723 he commissioned the court architect Joseph Effner to build a magnificent palace on the site of Preysing's house between Untere and Oberen Schwabing-Gasse (today Theatiner- and Residenzstraße ). The new Palais Preysing was completed in 1728, and Preysing and his father Johann Maximilian Ferdinand Felix Graf von Preysing moved into the building. The family also owned the Preysing Castle in Haidhausen .
