Boer horse
The Boerpferd ( Afrikaans Boerperd or Kaapse Boerperd ) is a horse breed from South Africa . She is also called the Cape Horse.
history
The Dutchman Jan van Riebeeck landed in Table Bay in 1652 to found a Dutch colony. The colony should serve to supply the ships of the Dutch East India Company . For the colony ponies and horses were imported, both Andalusians , Berber horses and Arabs, as well as Java ponies , from which today's Boerperd arose. Boerperd were bred, sold to the settlers, used in the Boer Trek , but were also used as military horses and in the Boer War .
The Boerperd was considered almost extinct in 1945. Since 1948, however, breeders have been trying to replenish their stocks.

The Boerperd is a small and relatively elegant and enduring riding horse with a height of 147 to 167 cm. There are the colors brown, gray, black, fox, black-brown and dun . Cape Boerperd are medium-sized warm-blooded animals, frugal, with a good character and a balanced temperament. In addition to the basic gaits, the Boerperd also masters the tölt .
use
Today, in addition to its traditional use for farm work, the Boerperd is increasingly bred as a sport and leisure horse, as it is very good for endurance sports and, because of its good-natured character, particularly suitable for beginners and children.
