Young Soon-won
Jung Soon-won (born October 12, 1973 ) is a retired South Korean wrestler . He was runner- up in free style light flyweight world championship in 1994 .
Career
Jung Soon-won began wrestling as a teenager in 1986. He focused on free style and was a member of Samsung Life Sports Club Seoul . His trainer was You In-tak. He started at a height of 1.60 meters in the lightest weight class of men's wrestling, the light flyweight, which at the time had a weight limit of 48 kg. Later he started in the flyweight (up to 52 kg or 54 kg body weight).
His international career as a wrestler began in 1993. He finished 4th in the light flyweight championship in Ulan Bator . Just one year later, in 1994, he achieved the greatest success of his career at the World Cup in Istanbul , where he was runner-up behind Alexis Vila from Cuba .
In 1995 Jung Soon-won was also Asian light flyweight champion in Manila ahead of Masanori Toita from Japan and Tümendembereliin Dsüünbajan from Mongolia. At the World Cup that year in Atlanta he was not very successful because he only came in 13th there. A year later he missed the medal ranks at the Olympic Games in Atlanta with a 5th place. There he defeated Vladimir Torgowkin, Kyrgyzstan and Luwsan-Ischiin Sergelenbaatar , Mongolia , lost to Kim Il-ong , North Korea and Wugar Orudschow , Russia and still triumphed over Vitali Railean from Moldova . In December 1996 he won the bronze medal at the Universities World Cup in Tehran in flyweight with a 3rd place behind Gholamreza Mohammadi , Iran and Herman Accountiev , Belarus .
In the following years he won no more medals at the international championships. In 1997 he finished 4th at the Asian Flyweight Championships. At the 1998 World Cup in Tehran, he came in flyweight with two wins and two defeats on the 9th place and at the Asian Games in 1998 in Bangkok he finished fourth again.
