Boethos of Kalchedon ( ancient Greek Βόηθος ὁ Χαλκηδόνος , Boëthos the Chalcedonians' ), son of Athanaion, was a born in the 1st half of the 2nd century BC. Active Greek sculptor and Toreut from Chalcedon , which is also known under the name of Kalchedon.

Often, almost all works associated with an ancient artist Boethos have been attributed to this particular boethos. However, this is misleading as there were between five and seven ancient artists named Boethos .

Two works from the sanctuary of Athena Lindia in Lindos on Rhodes certainly come from this Boethos . In his natural history, Pliny names a silver device from the hand of Boethos. A statue base from Lindos dating back to 184 BC. BC, names Boethos, son of Athanaion, from Kalchedon as an honorary citizen and donor of the statue on the base. The base of a statue of King Antiochus IV Epiphanes , which was made between 166 and 164 BC. BC and was found in front of the Temple of Apollo on Delos , also names Boethos as an artist. A final signature ( ΒΟΗΘΟΣ ΚΑΛΧΗΔΟΝΙΟΣ ΕΠΟΙΕΙ - "Boëthos from Kalchedon made (it)") of Boethos can be found on a bronze herme , which was taken from the wreck of a c. 100 BC. The sunken Roman glider, the ship found by Mahdia , was recovered by fishermen. It was through him that Alfred Merlin (1876–1965), who correctly assessed him in terms of age and importance, became the founder of underwater archeology.

Pliny mentions the most famous work by Boethos:

"From Boethos, although he was better in silver, a child (made of bronze) who strangles a goose by embracing it."

The sculpture was brought to Rome by Nero along with other works of art and placed in the Domus Aurea . Later they were placed in the Temple of Pax by Vespasian . This identifies the sculpture of the so-called goose - choke , which has come down to us today in the form of several Roman-Early Imperial marble copies; the best known copy is the one in the Glyptothek in Munich .
