Richard Neudecker (archaeologist)

Richard Neudecker (* 1949 ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Richard Neudecker studied Classical Archeology, Ancient History and Classical Archeology at the University of Munich . There he received his doctorate from Paul Zanker in 1981/82 with the work The Sculpture Furnishing of Roman Villas in Italy . For 1982/83 he received the travel grant of the German Archaeological Institute and was able to travel to the Mediterranean . Until his retirement at the end of January 2015, he worked full-time as a research assistant at the Rome department of the German Archaeological Institute , where he was responsible for the real catalog and the archaeological bibliography. In 1994 he completed his habilitation at the University of Munich with the widely acclaimed work Die Pracht der Latrine. On the change in public lavatories in the imperial city . Here Neudecker fundamentally deals with the architecture and cultural significance of public toilets in ancient Rome. Since then he has been teaching as a private lecturer in Munich.

Neudecker researches, among other things, the Italian cultures from the 7th to 3rd centuries BC. BC, to Teano (the ancient Teanum Sidicinum ), to Roman theater as well as to public splendid and prestigious buildings.
