Inner Kalchtor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Inner Kalchtor , also known as the Altes Kalchtor , was one of the four oldest city gates in Memmingen .

The Inner Kalchtor was probably built around the year 1000 AD. It stood at the eastern end of the old Guelph city on the former Ratzengraben, between the former Kreuzherrenkloster and the Natterer stationery house . The name was derived from the Kalkerfeld, a lime mining area located at the gates of the city. After the city was expanded to the east in the 14th century with the so-called Kalcher Vorstadt , the inner Kalchtor lost its purpose and was demolished. The outer Kalchtor took over its duties . Nothing has been preserved about the appearance of the Inner Kalchtor. However, it can be assumed that it was similar to the emergency center gate built at the same time .
