Natterer - east side

The house of the stationery shop Natterer in the Upper Swabian town of Memmingen is a listed building in the old Welfenstadt with the address Kalchstraße 9.

The three-storey corner house with four to eight axes is located north of the former Inner Kalchtor on the border with the Staufer town . The main facade is the south facade, the eastern part represents the former course of the wall of the first city walling of the Guelph city. The current house dates largely from the 16th century. The arched portal has a transverse oval skylight . The western side of the house consists largely of tufa blocks . There is a walled-up arched door and on the first floor there is a wooden column from the beginning of the 16th century with a quadrilateral base and twisted shaft with branches. There are fish bladders and a net rib ornament on the fighter . Wall paintings from the 14th century depicting a hunt are preserved on the second floor under a cladding. A coat of arms in a window niche dates from the 16th century.

A former fortification tower from the 12th century is located in the house up to the eaves side. It is also called the Welfenturm . However, it is not known whether this tower was built as a defensive or residential tower. In older publications it is assumed that the house is on the site of the former Welfenburg, which cannot be localized. In more recent research, however, this is not the case.

The ground floor is used by the Natterer stationery store, the upper floors are inhabited.
