The Lindentörlein was a city gate to the Upper Swabian city of Memmingen .

location

The gate stood on the east side of the city near today's train station and was purely a pedestrian gate for the community gardens in front of the city.

Appearance

The Lindentörlein was a typical Swabian raised gate with a pointed archway and a kennel in front. In its design it was similar to the Ulmer Tor .

history

During the second city expansion towards the east in the 14th century, the Lindentörlein was built as a pedestrian gate. The nearby Kalchtor in the east of the city served as the city gate . The törlein was demolished in 1863 in the course of the railway construction, also in order to be able to establish a railway connection to Schranne at Schrannenplatz. Today a plaque commemorates it. The street leading into town, which used to be behind the gate, is named after him.
