The soldier tower is a former defense tower of the Upper Swabian city ​​of Memmingen .

location

The tower stands on the east side of the old town between the Kempter Tor and Lindauer Tor .

Appearance

The rectangular tower consists of tuff stone in the substructure and brick in the superstructure and has a gable roof . The battlements on the Hohe Wacht run through it .

history

The soldier tower comes from the second city expansion in the 14th century. It is one of five identical towers between the Hohe Wacht and the Lindauer Tor . Two collapsed during the city siege of 1647, and two more were demolished in the 19th century. The name was probably derived from the Red Barracks in front of it .
