Boezinge

St. Michael's Church

Boezinge is a village in the Belgian province of West Flanders , it belongs to the city of Ypres .

The place was first mentioned in 1119 (the time of the first Counts of Ypres) in a chronicle that is now in the St. Martin's Chapter in Ypres.

A well-known building is the St. Michaelskirche located in the village.

In the nearby Artillery Wood cemetery are the graves of the Irish poet Francis Ledwidge and the Welsh poet Hedd Wyn , both of whom fell on July 31, 1917 in the Third Battle of Flanders .

In 1971 the place lost its independence and was incorporated into Ypres.
