Boggis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Boggis (probably as short form of Bodogisel ) was Duke of Aquitaine . He probably lived in the 6th or 7th century.

In the world chronicle of Sigebert von Gembloux from the beginning of the 12th century, the wife of Duke Boggis of Aquitaine, St. Oda by Amay, commemorated 711. The year 711 at Sigebert is, however, set far too late, as a comparison with other news about Boggis and Oda shows.

The only reliable source for Boggis' existence is the Vita Landiberti episcopi Traiectensis (Vita of Bishop Lambert of Maastricht ) of Canon Nicholas from the 12th century, mentioned by Duke Boggis of Aquitaine and his widow Oda of Amay (also Chrodoara), Oda as amita , d. H. as Lambert's paternal aunt.

In the Vita sanctae Odae viduae from the 13th century, Duke Boggis appears as the early deceased husband of Oda von Amay, who, as a widow, took off the veil and generously donated churches from her fortune.

In the Alaon Charter , Boggis is referred to as the son of the Frankish king Charibert II († 632) and as the father of Duke Eudo of Aquitaine († 735) and thus the link between the Merovingians and the first Aquitaine ducal house . Since the Charter of Alaon, which claims to be from the year 845, is a forgery of the 17th century, this information is worthless.
