Origin and meaning

The name is probably a Slavic formation of bog 'god' and milost 'love'.

It was first used in the 10th century for the religious movement of the Bogomils in Bulgaria and their possible founder Bogomil. Archbishop Bogumił of Gniezno worked in the 11th century .
